Ready to plant trees in Rosedale
Rosedale is a barren, sprawling and relatively new township across the N2 highway on the way to Pacaltsdorp. A number of organisations and individuals have joined forces to plant trees for the residents who don’t have shade in their yards, for children who have not experienced the thrill of climbing a tree and have had no birds to wake them up in the morning or herald out the day at dusk.

Environmental Education

Environmental education forms a crucial component for continued survival on this planet. Man cannot survive without nature, and many of the problems facing humanity today: starvation, thirst, extreme weather, global warming and disease are all a direct result of the destruction of our natural environment.

The GRBG is the ideal outdoor classroom, where people can interface with nature and be given incentives to work toward a unified vision of a healthy earth. It is a primary goal of the GRBG to develop, in conjunction with WESSA and local schools, a curriculum based education programme. In the Garden people can experience the beauty of the Southern Cape’s flora and fauna. WESSA offers the international Eco-Schools programme about environmental management learning and practice at school in conjunction with the GRBG.

WESSA is involved in an ambitious national programme Stepping up to Sustainability. Plans are to retro-fit the Moriarty Environmental Centre and show the public what lifestyle choices can be made to reduce our carbon footprint on the environment.

September 2013: Grade 7 learners and teachers from the St Boniface Primary School, Middelburg, Eastern Cape visited the GRBG.
