Introducing the new Trust and Board portfolios
 
At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Garden Route Botanical Garden Trust (held Monday 23rd June 2014) four members were voted onto the board of Trustees including 3 new board members Sue Harris, Fahdiel Manuel and John North. Outgoing chairperson Robin Clark was also re-elected as Trustee and will continue to serve on the Finance portfolio of the board. Other Trustees that will remain in office include Colin Ralston, Ken Gie, Lorraine McGibbon, Cingiswa Mtabati, Chris Neethling and Benjamin Walton.

At the first special board meeting early July the board elected John North as chairperson and Colin Ralston as vice-chair for the coming term. The board also agreed to restructure its focus and activities around 5 key portfolios outlined below and invite all members to engage more closely on the various exciting projects and opportunities available. The portfolios for the foreseeable future are:

1. Environmental Education, Awareness and Research (Lead by Sue Harris)
This portfolio includes among others:
a. South Cape Herbarium activities
b. WESSA educational activities
c. National Science Week (2-9 August 2014)
d. The Kos en Fynbos movement
e. Tree Planting initiatives

2. Business Development and Volunteer Engagement: (Lead by John North)
Includes:
a. Re-opening the Tea Garden and Coffee Shop
b. Events including an exclusive Camping Evening and concert series
c. Fundraising
d. Membership Drive
e. Public Relations, Website and Media
f. Donations Board
g. Sales (Nursery, Books etc.)

3. Finance:  (Robin Clark)
Includes:
a. Book keeping
b. Auditing
c. Investments

4. Operations & Human Resources:  (Lead by Ken Gie and Fahdiel Manuel)
Includes:
a. HR and Staffing
b. Garden maintenance
c. Security
d. Facilities maintenance
e. Health & Safety

5. Strategy and Planning  (Lead by Benjamin Walton)
Includes:
a. “Master Plan” development
b. EPIP Project
c. Ongoing Strategy development

The Garden office looks forward to hearing from members who are able and willing to contribute some time, energy and resources to the various portfolios and functions.

ENTRANCE FEES:  R10.00 per person. Children under 12 get in for free, if accompanied by an adult.
