Bruce and Gill Fordyce are the driving force behind parkrunSA and will also open the first George parkrun. It is always 5km and always on a Saturday morning at 08:00 worldwide. It is always free. The aim is to get everyone involved, old and young people to get out, get fit and to encourage people to live healthier. It is thus accessable to everyone! Babies in prams and dogs on leaches, old people… You can run, walk, jog… It is not a race, it’s fun! Each parkrunner can monitor his/her results on the website. The three sponsors for parkrun is Discovery Vitality, adidas and Blue label telecoms.
Discovery Vitality members earn 500 Vitality points per parkrun!
The route in George will start and finish at the Garden Route Botanical Gardens, 49 Caledon Street.
Register as a parkrunner: Everyone who wants to participate, goes to the web page: www.parkrun.co.za on the link which states ‘register’. Complete your personal details, follow the instructions and print your bar coded card. You can laminate the card/simply just bring the barcode to the event.
