Walks & Hikes
If you are out for a gentle stroll or serious hike – the Botanical Gardens offers both scenic strolls around the dam (check out our Bird Hide) or a short nature trail (10 min) along a stream to the more serious full-day hiking trails that can be accessed from the Gardens.
ENTRANCE FEES - Entrance is R10.00 per person. Children under 12 get in for free, if accompanied by an adult.
The Gardens offers an endless supply of great photo opportunities. Our regular photographic enthusiasts can be found poised in the Bird Hide waiting for an elusive lesser spotted Aves to make its appearance. Others hover precariously over flowers, insects and other critters - capturing these special moments with their large zooms!
Every heard of Geocache Treasure Hunt?
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.
A unique experience awaits you when you travel on the Outeniqua Power Van’s railbus from George on the Oudtshoorn railway-pass. Panoramic views over the Outeniqua Mountain Nature Reserve can be enjoyed whilst listening to the commentary of an experienced tour guide. The stunning beauty of the Outeniqua Mountains unfolds as you travel one of South Africa’s most scenic routes. Experience the forest, four passes, water falls, seven tunnels, fynbos, proteas, bird, animal life and the panoramic picnic site. Take a picnic basket.
